Hong Kong Supermarket on Bellaire is a haven for Vietnamese groceries at reasonable prices. I always love coming here, and the freshly baked banh mi baguettes are a highlight--hot out of the oven and absolutely delicious! Highly recommend for authentic ingredients and tasty treats.
Wow. Huge Asian Mega Supermarket. Lots of products, bigger than H Mart or Great Wall. We bought a bunch of snacks from South Korea that we didn't see available at H Mart. The cashiers were quick and friendly.
I enjoy coming here whenever I'm in the Houston area. It always has what I'm looking for and for a cheap price. It's not the cleanest, but those are the best kinds of Asian market. They have a large selection of live seafood such as shellfish and fish. They'll even put the fish out of its misery when you buy a live fish. They also have a large meat section where they butcher you meats for you. I can spend a lot of time going through every aisle. The parking is huge. This large market is located within an even larger building where you'll find vendors and many other Asian stores and restaurants. The staff speaks limited English so if you're looking for something and pressing for time, perhaps Google it in Vietnamese and see if someone can help you. They also have a little area where they sell roast duck, char siu pork, and roast pork.
Can find anything you want here, just need a lot of time. We wanted to eat, but my only negative is that the food court and most restaurants are not in English. We were going to the Crawfish Kitchen, but my told hubs I am in my Good Friday clothes and with not be eating crawfish. We went on to the Oceanera (sp) Restaurant and they had just closed. So, we headed back to The Woodlands for Services and can't remember if we ate. I was lucky to find a case for my phone, $15...too tired to barter and it is a nice case so I bought it. The lady helping me was super helpful and polite. This mall is huge, I wish we had time to go to the grocery store because I wanted my hubs to say "oh my word, it stinks". That would be frozen Durian. I have smelled the unfrozen in Singapore too many times. That is a stinky fruit I equate to the Corpse Flower.. We will have to come again for a grocery shopping experience. Fun time..
*Located inside Hong Kong City Mall. This place blew me away. I've been shopping at Asian grocery stores like 99Ranch and HMart for years but this felt like another level. Amazing variety here with a lot of products I wasn't familiar with. Btw, this place appears to be Vietnamese, not sure why it's called Hong Kong. Lots to explore here so carve out ample time. Great produce section, fish, meat, desserts, kitchenware (we bought some cool dragon bowls made in Japan), and so much more. VEGANS: Definitely not a vegan haven overall since they sell entire pig heads and bull penises (see photos) however they have a robust vegan food section. Frozen vegan lobster, shrimp, pork belly, fish, beef, and more (see photo). I'll definitely be back, particularly to stock up on snacks (mostly dried fish as well as my favorite shiitake mushroom crisps).
